An earthquake of 5.8 magnitude struck Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district on Monday night10.35 pm. There were strong tremors which were felt in national capital Delhi and neighbouring Gurgaon, Punjab and other parts of north India.
Tremors were reported as far away as Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.
Tremors, which lasted for about 30 seconds, were also in Mussoriee, Pithoragarh, Mathura, Rishikesh, Shamli and Chandigarh. No damage has been reported so far.
Also in United States Geological Survey website reports this as “Earthquake at magnitude 5.6 with an epicentre 35 km west-north-west of Pipalkoti in Uttarakhand“.

“The MHA is closely monitoring the situation in earthquake hit Uttarakhand and other north Indian states where the tremors have been felt,” the Office of the Home Minister said on Twitter.
The official account of the Home Minister of India tweeted, “The NDRF teams have been rushed from Ghaziabad to Uttarakhand to conduct rescue and relief operations, if the situation arises.”
